What are Horse-Riding Protective Vests?
Equestrian safety vests – also known as horse-riding safety vests – offer riders additional protection for the torso, neck, and tailbone. An equestrian safety vest is a horse-riding gear piece that wears like a vest, zips up, and fits comfortably under a jacket.
When appropriately worn, an equestrian safety vest may help reduce the strong impact of a fall on internal organs, ribs, and shielding the spine.
There are two general types of safety vests. The air vest, which inflates with air when the rider falls off the horse. The air injects in the tubing when the rider falls off. A lanyard connects the air vest to the horse saddle. When the horse rider falls, the lanyard triggers the air inflation within a fraction of a second. The air will quickly inject o the air vest with a CO2 canister before the rider hits the ground.
Other protective riding vests are considered body protectors by offering permanent protection with the use of rigid foam.
Both offer a greater level of protection for the riders during a fall, including hooves’ defense. After each fall, the safety air vest should be inspected for any tears. A new canister must replace the old one after use.
What To Look For When Buying a Horse-Riding Vest
You want your equestrian safety vest to fit well. Wearing someone else’s safety vest, which is much bigger or smaller, may reduce the efficacy of how the equestrian safety vest is supposed to function. Each vest should fit appropriately. Additionally, your topcoat will need to inspection for the right elasticity. The wrong coat worn may prevent the air vest from working correctly.
The vest should reach the base of the neck down to the uppermost area of the sternum. The vest should fit around the torso and be zipped and secured with comfort.
While every horse rider should have a safety vest, inflatable vests like the Helite Vest are a worthy investment. Especially for those participating in high-impact equestrian sports such as hunting, cross-country, and show jumping, among others. Every discipline of competitive horse riding and recreational horse riding will significantly benefit from equestrian safety vests.
Protective horse-riding vests are perfect for beginning riders as well as experienced riders as well.
Before getting on a horse, every rider should prepare for all situations with the proper safety gear. The best thing to do is to equip yourself with the appropriate safety gear.
